The artwork in detail

Against a reddish-brown background, two hands rendered in grisaille surround a daisy whose petals seem to be escaping. The large yellow inscription «TIRAGE» crosses the scene diagonally, while a white cartouche announces 11 June 1978. The image thus combines a delicate gesture, monumental typography and an immediately legible advertising signal. Signed «P. A. Junod» at lower right, the poster forms part of the graphic work of Pierre-Alexandre Junod, a Swiss painter and poster artist associated with Neuchâtel. A circular stamp bearing the words «État Neuchâtel – Affiches» appears in the upper-left corner. Junod constructs the message’s effectiveness through sharp contrasts. The cream-coloured letters stand out rigorously in the upper section; the golden yellow animates the lower diagonal. Between these two typographic registers, the hands with their grainy modelling and the flower in pale tones create an almost theatrical scene. The suspended petals bring movement to this highly controlled arrangement. Executed in colour on paper, the poster retains a clear margin that isolates the composition. A frame with a slender light-metal profile presents the sheet against a broad black background. This sobriety reinforces the brown, cream and yellow palette without competing with the graphic design. The work ultimately captivates through the unexpected combination of a poetic image and a direct commercial message, between the chance of the draw and the game of plucking petals.
