About the artist — Edmond-Jean de Pury (1845-1911) is a Swiss painter and engraver whose work is particularly associated with genre scenes and Italian subjects. He settled in Chioggia from 1885 during the fine months, where he observed the daily life of the lagoon shores with a sensitive attention to modest figures, costumes, and effects of light.
