About the artwork

A deeply pleated silver form unfolds against a light square background. It evokes a crumpled fabric or a sheet of metal animated by a sweeping movement: the folds gather at the centre, stretch towards the edges and reveal patches of the background in places. This tension between mass and void gives the composition its rhythm, while its square format lends it a stable presence. The reflective surface alternates between white highlights, cool greys and almost black shadows. The raised areas catch the light along their edges; the hollows, by contrast, absorb the gaze and enhance the sense of depth. The work is thus revealed through successive contrasts, which change according to the viewing angle and the lighting. The light, relatively uniform background brings out the complexity of the form without setting a competing motif against it. The subject lies in the realm of abstraction: no specific object asserts itself, and attention is drawn to the material, the fold and the movement. The surface seems to have been formed through hollows and raised areas rather than simply represented in paint. This construction gives the whole a tactile, almost sculptural dimension. The irregular contours prevent the form from closing into a defined figure; they keep it in a state of transformation, between drapery, fragment and organic mass. Measuring 70 × 70 cm, this work combines fabric shaped in relief with acrylic painting on canvas. It is signed “Tatiana Kaufmann” and dated 2025 at the lower right. Its metallic appearance comes from the painted surface and the interplay of light across the folds. In a contemporary living room with understated walls, this square relief would find its place as a central work, with directed lighting that would vary the reflections and shadows. It would bring a sculptural presence and a metallic contrast to the space.
