Arturo Vermi (1928–1988) is associated, in a sales notice, with his friends from Cenobio and a search for the sign as an expressive element. This indication situates his approach within a consideration of the expressive possibilities of the sign. In a statement reported in the same notice, he speaks of the search for simple and essential values, as well as of a space to be stripped back rather than filled. He describes compositions reduced to a horizontal line, sometimes to two, against an empty background, and gives this series the title “Paysages”. Among the documented works, Paesaggio is attributed to Vermi: this acrylic painting on canvas is signed and titled on the verso.
This profile brings together identity references for Arturo Vermi and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
