A young woman rests among white pillows, her eyes lowered and her black hair spread widely around her face. Her bent arm in the foreground leads the eye towards the hand resting on the bed linen. Her torso forms a diagonal, while a sheet rises on the right and covers the lower part of her body. Émile Chambon contrasts the dark mass of hair with the off-whites of the pillows and sheet. The fringes and folds of the linen are built from thick brushstrokes whose raised texture catches the light. Flesh tones, shaded with pink and ochre, are modelled through firm outlines and brown shadows. Small gold-coloured earrings add bright accents. The close framing lends the scene an intimate presence. The face may suggest rest or reverie, without identifying a particular episode. Signed and dated 1957 at the lower left, the painting combines a carefully drawn figure with a clearly visible handling of paint.
