About the artwork
Against a turquoise-blue background, a figure with a face turned in profile to the left unfurls a voluminous, multicoloured costume. One arm rises towards the upper right corner, while the other descends towards the foreground. This diagonal gives the composition its momentum; the long, curved bands surrounding the figure extend the movement.
The costume forms a mosaic of stripes, triangles, rectangles and oval motifs. Strong reds and yellows respond to greens, pinks and purples, while the dark outlines bring order to this profusion. The restrained treatment of the face’s silhouette contrasts with the garment’s ornamental richness. The eye follows the rhythms of the design like the folds of a fabric in motion.
The pose evokes dance. The work’s strength lies in this balance between a gesture that is immediately legible and an exuberant surface, where each motif contributes to the animation of the whole.
Alioune Dime, also known as Dime Sableur, is an artist of Senegalese origin based in Switzerland. His practice combines natural or coloured sand with collage. He also shares this technique in workshops, particularly in the Geneva region. This composition brings together his interest in material and a figuration driven by the rhythm of colour.
Created in sand on canvas, the work measures 100 × 100 cm and is presented unframed. Its square format and assertive design give it a strong graphic presence.
The work is currently abroad. The point of departure, arrangements for handover or shipping, and any applicable costs should be clarified with the artist before purchase.
