American artist and printmaker Kenneth Price devoted most of his work to ceramic sculpture. He is particularly associated with abstract forms shaped from fired clay. His sculptures are generally left unglazed: he covers them with several layers of brightly coloured acrylic, then sands them to reveal the underlying hues.
He trained in Los Angeles at the Chouinard Art Institute and the Otis Art Institute. After earning a BFA from the University of Southern California in 1956, he continued his studies at Chouinard in 1957, then received an MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 1959. At Otis, he studied ceramics with Peter Voulkos and received a Tamarind fellowship. He lived and worked in Venice, California, and Taos, New Mexico.
This profile brings together identity references for Kenneth Price and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
