Anne Packard

Born : 1933Documented citizenships : United States

Born in 1933, Anne Packard comes from an artistic family closely connected with Provincetown, Massachusetts. Her grandparents Zella and Max Bohm were painters, and Max helped develop the local artists' colony. She spent childhood summers in Provincetown before settling there permanently in 1977. In 1988 she opened Packard Gallery in a former church.

Her landscapes depict the shores of the Outer Cape and places visited in Europe. Boats, dunes, harbours and expanses of sky appear in pared-down compositions attentive to atmosphere and changing light. Alongside oils on canvas or panel, she works in drawing and pastel. The book Anne Packard: Introspective presents these different stages of her practice, tracing the development of images from preliminary sketches through to finished works.

This profile brings together identity references for Anne Packard and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
