Willy Hamacher (1865–1909) was a German painter born in Breslau, now Wrocław, who specialised in coastal landscapes. He studied under Carl Cowen Schirm, then Eugen Dücker at the Düsseldorf Academy in 1888–1889. He continued his training in Berlin with the Norwegian painter Hans Fredrik Gude between 1890 and 1894, before establishing his own practice there.
His travels included Sweden, France, England and Italy. Initially drawn to northern shores, he later favoured the brighter landscapes of the Mediterranean. Views of Capri illustrate this direction. In 1895 he opened a painting school in Berlin for both men and women. His participation in Berlin exhibitions brought him a small gold medal in 1896, marking recognition within the contemporary exhibition circuit.
This profile brings together identity references for Willy Hamacher and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
