Pedro Flores García

Born : 1897Died : 1967Documented citizenships : Spain

Pedro Flores García is distinguished by a body of painting that the source describes as avant-garde, structured by a geometry of forms and planes, thick outlines and intense colours. His practice is not limited to oil painting: it also includes printmaking, illustration and scenography. After the family business went bankrupt, he was permitted to leave school and studied drawing at the Academy of the Friends of Murcia.

Works listed for 1920 include « Plaza Belluga », « Autorretrato con chaleco », « Paisaje con palmeras » and « Retrato de Mateo »; those associated with 1930 include « Rue Galande », « Dos figuras », « Arlequín y su hijo », « Le Marché Mouffetard » and « Rue Montebello ». In 1962, a mural decoration at the sanctuary of La Fuensanta is among his documented works.

His name appears in several group exhibitions devoted to Spanish artists: at Galerie Roux-Henschel in Paris in June 1945, in « Quelques peintres et sculpteurs espagnols de l’École de Paris »; in Prague in 1946, among the participants in an exhibition of Spanish painters; and then at Galerie Jacques Vidal in Paris in June 1956, in « Peintures et sculptures des artistes espagnols ».
