The French painter Charles-François Nivard, born in Nancy in 1739 and deceased in Versailles in 1821, explored several areas of landscape painting: the countryside, village scenes, ancient ruins and urban settings. In Paris, he studied painting techniques with Simon-Mathurin Lantara, particularly the rendering of light, sky and clouds. In 1783, he was approved by the Académie royale de peinture.
Among the documented works are two large views of the banks of the Saône and Rhône in Lyon, dated 1804 and now held at the Gadagne Museums. His paintings are also recorded in the private collections of the Duke of La Rochefoucauld, the Marquis de Ségur and the Marquis de Montesquiou.
This profile brings together identity references for Charles François Nivard and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
