SwissArtGallery · Documented identity
The German painter Justus Juncker, born in 1703 and died in 1767, is associated with a practice shaped by the study of seventeenth-century Dutch painters. A sale notice presents Der Alchimist as an example of this art, informed by Dutch models. Juncker is among the Frankfurt artists favoured by Goethe’s father, alongside C. G. Schütz the Elder, J. C. Seekatz and J. G. Trautmann. The provenance given for Der Alchimist is a West German private collection.
This profile brings together identity references for Justus Juncker and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
