Jakob Fürchtegott Dielmann

Born : 1809Died : 1885

Jakob Fürchtegott Dielmann (1809–1885), born and deceased in Frankfurt, trained at the Städel and then in lithography at Friedrich Carl Vogel’s establishment. With Jakob Becker he produced a panorama of the Rhine published in 1833. A scholarship enabled him to continue his studies with landscape painter Johann Wilhelm Schirmer in Düsseldorf from 1835.

Returning to Frankfurt in 1842, he established a studio at the Städel. In 1861 he joined Anton Burger in Kronberg, where they founded an artists’ colony. Landscapes of the Rhine, Lahn and Taunus accompany his scenes of Hessian village life. A draughtsman and illustrator, he also published albums of views. The Städel holds paintings and around two hundred drawings and watercolours from his estate.
