Born in 1952, Maria Palatini grew up in St. Gallen, the city where she also established her artistic practice. According to a biography published by Kunstkaufen.ch, in 1977 she chose to devote herself to painting as a self-taught and independent artist. In 1979, she opened her own gallery, which also served as her studio; for more than thirty years, she ran Galerie zum Strauss in St. Gallen’s old town. According to the same biography, the gallery closed in March 2016, after thirty-seven years of activity.
According to Kunstkaufen.ch, her inspiration comes from observing everyday life. Her paintings offer a satirical reading of it: opulent and frivolous figures appear in absurd or cynical scenes that caricature human weaknesses and certain social particularities. Her works have been exhibited in Zurich, Basel, San Francisco and Chicago. Among the documented works is “Landpartie”, an acrylic on canvas mounted on panel, measuring 42 × 36 cm and signed “M. Palatini” at the lower right. “Der Golfer” is listed as an oil painting measuring 34 × 25.5 cm, signed at the lower right. One source announces an exhibition in Zurich for 2027.
