Adriaen Hendriksz Verboom

Born : 1628Died : 1670

Adriaen Hendriksz. Verboom, born in Rotterdam around 1627–1628, was a Dutch painter, draughtsman and etcher specialising in landscape. Trees, paths, dunes and waterways structure a repertoire in which rural dwellings and human figures are set within their natural surroundings. His works on paper occupy an important place in museum collections.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds Dune Landscape with Trees, executed in pen and brown ink and formerly attributed to Claes van Beresteyn. The Getty owns A Cottage Hidden among Trees on a Riverbank, dating from around 1658–1663, combining ink, wash and black chalk. These sheets demonstrate different ways of constructing landscape through networks of lines or the tonal values created by wash.

This profile brings together identity references for Adriaen Hendriksz Verboom and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
