Hans Maurus

Born : 1901Died : 1942Documented citizenships : Germany

The German painter Hans Maurus, born in Munich in 1901 and deceased in 1942 in Marijanowska, on the Eastern Front, is also referred to by the first name Hanns. One notice describes him as a landscape painter, and the listed works attest to alpine and lake subjects: the Große Bischofsmütze in the Dachstein massif, a scene titled Kirchgang in den Alpen, a boat on Lake Chiemsee, Lake Mondsee with the Schafberg, and the Alpspitze.

Kirchgang in den Alpen, an oil on canvas signed and dated 1925, serves as a documented chronological reference point within this group. The notices also describe oils on canvas or board, sometimes titled on the reverse; several bear a signature accompanied by the mention “Rottach Egern”. According to a sale notice, Maurus exhibited at the Great German Art Exhibitions held at the Haus der Deutschen Kunst in Munich from 1938 to 1942. The same notice identifies him as a member of the Munich Artists’ Cooperative and the Reichsverband bildender Künstler Deutschlands.

This profile brings together identity references for Hans Maurus and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
