Armando Annichini
Figurative painting
Armando Annichini was an Italian painter documented in Nidau and Pieterlen who had died by 1980. He was probably the artist A. Annichini, who was based in Biel/Bienne in the early 1960s.
His professional stamp reads “A. Annichini — artiste peintre — Heidenweg 13 — BIEL”. Several landscapes retain rental contracts with an option to purchase, bearing the letterhead of Bildergilde Gutenberg, V.
Guatelli, Gutenbergstrasse 11 in Bern. The signed receipts are dated 4 October 1960, 11 July 1961 and 12 January 1962. An official publication from 1958 associates the name Verena Guatelli with this gallery.
A commercial register entry dated 11 May 1964, published in the Swiss Official Gazette of Commerce on 21 May, identifies Armando Annichini, an Italian national, as the proprietor of the sole proprietorship “A. Annichini” in Nidau, Grenzstrasse 48. Its stated activity was selling paintings he made himself, described as “Kunstmalerei”.
In May 1968 the business moved from Nidau to Pieterlen, Postgasse 17, where its proprietor was also living. The notice published on 31 May 1968 explicitly refers back to the 1964 entry. In a further notice dated 24 November 1980 and published on 3 December, the register records the removal of the same painting business from its records following the proprietor’s death.
Documented works signed Annichini include landscapes around Biel/Bienne and the Seeland region: woodland near Biel-Madretsch, the Alte Aare near Büren and the Lyssbach near Lyss. The Belp marshes, floral still lifes and seascapes also feature among his subjects. These oils reflect a figurative approach focused on landscapes and motifs from nature.
One seascape retains the stamp of Bildergilde Gutenberg on its reverse, accompanied by the German word “Ausstellung”. Another work bears the handwritten inscription “Exposition à Berne” with the reference “62 / – 792”.
The works by Armando Annichini presented by Swiss Art Gallery extend this artistic journey and take their place naturally within this corpus.
