Kosta Alex developed his sculpture between the United States, Paris and Geneva. Born Kosta Alexopoulos in Elizabeth in 1925 to Greek immigrant parents, he learned carving, casting and moulding from Hugo Ricardi in Manhattan. The G.I. Bill enabled him to move to Paris in 1947, where he attended the Grande Chaumière. His meeting with Jean Planque in 1958 preceded a major solo exhibition at Galerie Claude Bernard in 1964. There he presented bronzes, including heads wearing hats. Later settling in Geneva, he worked with art foundryman Mario Pastori. From 1973 to 1982, he maintained a studio at Pastori’s premises in Carouge.
