Hans Zank’s career is closely connected with that of Willi Gericke. The two artists shared a studio in Spandau from 1919 and attended Johann Walter-Kurau’s art school in Berlin from 1921 to 1929. In 1945 they settled in Falkensee. Their combined output comprises several thousand paintings: landscapes, urban views, portraits and nudes. Many were painted jointly, but individual attribution often remains uncertain, especially since Gericke retrospectively signed works with both names after Zank’s death. They participated in the Berlin exhibition Künstler schaffen für den Frieden in 1951–1952. In 2019 the Museum und Galerie Falkensee presented works by both artists from the Ulrich Zimmer collection, reflecting their shared artistic history.
This profile brings together identity references for Hans Zank and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
