Francesco Lojacono (Palermo, 1838–1915) was a leading figure in nineteenth-century Sicilian landscape painting. Initially trained by his father Luigi and Salvatore Lo Forte, he continued his studies in Naples from 1856, absorbing the example of the Palizzi painters and the Posillipo school. His work combines close observation of nature with a sustained interest in Mediterranean light. Sicilian coastlines, gardens, farmland and mountains recur throughout his paintings, with human figures often subordinate to the landscape. His large compositions give the genre a monumental presence, while his seascapes frequently convey quieter atmospheric effects. Participation in Italian and international exhibitions helped establish his reputation. His works are represented in collections including Palermo’s Galleria d’Arte Moderna and the Museo Borgogna in Vercelli. On the auction market, Beurret & Bailly | Galerie Widmer records Landschaft bei Palermo, a signed oil on canvas dated 1896 and measuring 101 × 150 cm, providing a documented example of his mature landscape production.
