Heinrich Petersen-Flensburg (1861–1908), born in Aarhus and deceased in Kaiserswerth, was a German landscape and marine painter. He studied with Dücker at Düsseldorf’s academy until 1883. He adopted “Flensburg” to distinguish himself from Heinrich Petersen-Angeln. His affiliations included Düsseldorf’s Malkasten, the Schleswig-Holsteinische Kunstgenossenschaft and the circle of the Ekensund artists’ colony.
Based in Düsseldorf and later Kaiserswerth, he travelled to Bornholm in 1883, Jutland in 1884, Italy and Spain in 1897–1898, and Norway in 1902. Helle Sommernacht (bei den Lofoten), an oil painting signed and dated 1908, exemplifies his northern repertoire. Acquired by the Museum Kunst der Westküste in 2003, it connects the landscape of the Lofoten Islands with the theme of a bright summer night.
