Vojislav Jakic, born in Macedonia in 1932 and deceased in 2003, worked mainly in Serbia. From 1970, his drawings assumed considerable dimensions, with some scrolls exceeding fifty metres. Insects, embryonic figures and human beings populate compositions executed in ballpoint pen, gouache and crayons. Their accumulation of forms turns the sheet into a dense space inhabited by multiple presences.
The Savage Drawing of 1973, held by the National Museum in Kraljevo, is more than six metres long. At LaM, a drawing in Indian ink of 1976 and Hemuto, made before 1993 with pastel, ballpoint pen and pencils, continue this exploration of large formats. The Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne devoted an exhibition to Jakic in 1979, establishing an international museum context for the reception of his work.
