Augustin Carrera built his career between Marseille and Paris, studying first with Alphonse Moutte and later with Léon Bonnat and Henri Martin. Exhibiting at the Salon des artistes français from 1904, he developed a practice encompassing landscapes, nudes, portraits and flower compositions. His stay in East Asia in 1912 added temples and scenes of local life to this repertoire. Monumental decoration formed another strand of his work: he produced panels for the royal palace in Cambodia and worked on the ceilings of the Marseille opera house in 1924. Settling in Allauch after military service, he maintained his Provençal connections while continuing a career shaped by travel and commissions for architectural settings.
