Giorgio Belloni

Born : 1861Died : 1944

Born in Codogno in 1861, the Italian painter Giorgio Belloni built his career around the coastal landscape. From the early 1880s, summer stays in Sturla, Noli and Forte dei Marmi supported his practice of painting from nature, close to Lombard naturalism. Shores, harbours and changing atmospheric conditions offered him an enduring field of observation. This commitment to marine painting accompanied his participation in Italian exhibition life. He showed at the international art exhibition in Venice in 1899, received a room devoted to his work there in 1914, and exhibited at the Galleria Pesaro in 1919. Belloni died in Azzano di Mezzegra in 1944, leaving a career that joined direct experience of landscape with an established public exhibition presence.
