Pietro Dandini

Born : 1646Died : 1712

Florence’s churches and palaces offer several ways into the work of Pier Dandini, also known by the first name Pietro. This painter of the Florentine Baroque produced both easel pictures and extensive decorative schemes. At Santa Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi, he painted the dome of the main chapel in 1701, depicting the saint’s ascent among the Florentine saints. His activities also included decorations at Palazzo Corsini and Villa La Petraia. The painting of Pietro da Cortona and Luca Giordano provided important points of reference for his art. Alongside these monumental commissions, drawings offer access to his work on a different scale: the Louvre holds, among other sheets, Timocleia Brought before Alexander.

This profile brings together identity references for Pietro Dandini and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
