Greek painter, lithographer and poet Alékos Fassianós (1935–2022) developed a figurative art in which contemporary life takes on a mythological dimension. He studied painting with Yiánnis Móralis in Athens before continuing his training in lithography and printmaking in Paris. The French capital became an important centre of his career, particularly during Greece’s military dictatorship. Collaborations with writers and publishers, including Fata Morgana, extended his practice into illustrated books. In Athens, his murals for Metaxourgeío metro station brought his imagery into public space. Working with the architect Kyriákos Krókos, he also transformed a building intended to house the Fassianós Museum, connecting his artistic practice with an architectural setting.
This profile brings together identity references for Alekos Fassianos and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
