Hubert de Lartigue, a French artist born in 1963, moved from illustration to painting centred on the female figure. Trained in graphic arts at the Duperré, Arts décoratifs and Estienne schools, he worked in advertising and publishing, including science-fiction illustration. From 2003 he devoted himself to painting. Nudes, portraits and close views of mouths are executed in acrylic with an airbrush on canvas, using his own photographs. Hyperrealism allows him to transform a photographic reference into a unique work, while drawing from life provides a more spontaneous counterpart. Apothéose, a commission from 2015 measuring two by six metres, brings together eighteen women who had modelled for him and gives this exploration a monumental scale.
This profile brings together identity references for Hubert de Lartigue and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
