Jacob Jordaens (1593–1678) was a Flemish painter whose career unfolded chiefly in Antwerp. Trained by Adam van Noort, he became a master of the Guild of Saint Luke in 1615–1616 and its dean in 1621. Although he never travelled to Italy, his practice served patrons across Europe. He collaborated with Rubens on decorations for Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand’s entry into Antwerp and on paintings for the Torre de la Parada. His work combines biblical and mythological subjects with popular scenes, fables and proverbs. He also supplied tapestry cartoons. In 1652, he painted The Triumph of Prince Frederick Henry of Nassau for Huis ten Bosch in The Hague.
This profile brings together identity references for Jacob Jordaens and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
