Johann Jungblut (1860–1912), also known as Jungbluth, was a German painter born in Saarburg who died in Düsseldorf. His work centres on landscape, particularly Dutch waterways in winter and Norwegian fjords. Mist, a low sun and an Impressionistic treatment of atmosphere characterise the winter scenes described in the sources. A view of Ghent dated 1883 and a moorland with birches from 1885 show the range of his motifs. Vorfrühling in einem norwegischen Fjord is held by the Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum in Bremerhaven. Jungblut also signed some paintings with the pseudonym J. M. Sander. His son Emil became a sculptor, continuing artistic practice within the family, while his own career remains principally associated with landscape painting.
This profile brings together identity references for Johann Jungblut and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
