Frédéric Soulacroix

Born : 1858Died : 1933Documented citizenships : France

Frédéric Soulacroix (1858–1933) was the son of the French sculptor and painter Charles Soulacroix and Giacinta Diofebo. He entered the Florence Academy of Fine Arts in 1873 and the Scuola di Pittura in 1876. His practice developed particularly around anecdotal genre scenes set either in the eighteenth century or in his own contemporary world.

Dame jouant de la guitare, an oil on canvas signed and dated 1891, illustrates this repertoire centred on figures and leisure activities. His career also remained connected to French cultural life in Florence. A committee member of the Alliance française, he was appointed Officier d’Académie in 1924 and a knight of the Legion of Honour in 1929. His Florentine training and these distinctions illuminate the Franco-Italian ties of his career.

This profile brings together identity references for Frédéric Soulacroix and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
