At the beginning of his career, Klaus Staudt made serial reliefs in white wood, before developing spatial and shadow reliefs, followed by two-layer reliefs. Born in 1932 in Otterndorf, Lower Saxony, he situates his work within an artistic enquiry pursued notably through series and relief.
Komponent, dated 1995, combines acrylic, emulsion paint and coloured pencil on wood behind a plastic film and in an object box measuring 50 × 50 × 3 cm; the work is signed, dated and titled on the reverse. It is shown in Kutná-Prague in 2011, in Düren in 2011–2012, and then at the Angermuseum in Erfurt in 2012 in the exhibition Dialog über Grenzen, devoted to the Riese Collection; it is also reproduced in colour in the exhibition catalogue.
In 2016, Staudt takes part in Um die Ecke denken at Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, in an exhibition bringing together the museum’s collection and invited interventions. Two catalogues raisonnés are mentioned: one covering the years 1960–1984, published in Saarbrücken in 1984, the other covering the years 1960–1999, published in 1999.
This profile brings together identity references for Klaus Staudt and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
