Alberto Prosdocimi (1852–1925) divided his practice between watercolour and manuscript illumination. Trained at the Venice academy and in his father's workshop, he painted views of the city among other subjects. His copy of the Grimani Breviary and drawings of Saint Mark's Basilica for Ongania's chromolithographs connect his practice with the transmission of Venetian heritage. Illumination also brought commissions from Queen Margherita, including a portrait of the Prince of Naples. He produced an illuminated album presented to the queen by the aristocracy of Padua and Verona. Alongside these projects, the watercolour Der Muschelsucher demonstrates an interest in the human figure and human activities extending beyond urban views alone.
This profile brings together identity references for Alberto Prosdocimi and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
