Born and died in Berlin, Charles Hoguet (1821–1870) received training that first took him to Wilhelm Krause, a marine painter, in 1839, and then to Eugène Isabey in 1841.
From 1842, he regularly took part in the Salon de Paris, where he exhibited until 1853; he received a gold medal there in 1848. He then moved to Berlin and joined the Academy. He was also awarded a gold medal at the Salon de Berlin in 1859.
Works recorded in public collections attest to a range of subjects: a Paysage measuring 30 × 44 cm, from the Layé collection, is listed at the musée des Beaux-Arts de Chartres; Le Pont de l’Archevêché de Paris is recorded at the musée de Dordrecht, and the source also mentions this Pont de l’Archevêché under a title dated between 1840 and 1870; the musée national de Varsovie holds, according to the source, Berge de rivière au coucher du soleil, dated 1857. Marché à Rouen is dated 1859. These titles attest to the presence of landscapes and urban views in his recorded body of work, without the available information allowing his pictorial choices to be specified further.
This profile brings together identity references for Charles Hoguet and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
