Werner Andermatt
Werner Andermatt first trained at the Kunstgewerbeschule Luzern from 1935 to 1938, then continued his studies in Paris at the Académie La Grande Chaumière and in Zurich at the Akademie Wabel.
Coming from a professional milieu oriented towards the image, he worked from 1938 onwards as a graphic designer and layout artist, and was subsequently described as a drawing teacher and graphic designer. In 1948, he was appointed instructor in life drawing and graphic design at the Kunstgewerbeschule Luzern.
From 1950 to 1981, he directed the Schule für Gestaltung Luzern; the documentation further indicates that he lived in Lucerne and was a member of the Central Switzerland section of the professional association visarte.
Works attributed to Andermatt appear for sale on the art market: one documented example is the acrylic entitled «Raumerlebnis», signed and dated 1988, mentioned in a sale listing. His presence can also be traced in online art-market databases and directories of Swiss artists, which record entries and bibliographic references.
The bibliography includes a monograph published in 1996 (Werner Andermatt, text by Sibylle Omlin), and his career was marked by regional distinctions, notably the Innerschweizer Kulturpreis in 1986 and the award of the Ehrennadel of the City of Lucerne in 1996.
The biographical notice mentions a family life (married, father of four sons and one daughter), and his name appears in the context of exhibitions associated with visarte, for example in the biography provided for the exhibition RETRO 120 Jahre visarte Zentralschweiz in 2016.
