Werner Holenstein
Born in 1932.
Died in 1985.
Werner Holenstein (1932–1985), also mentioned in the sources under the name Werner Achilles Beda Holenstein, appears under these variants of his name. His work is characterised by a recurring exploration of landscapes, interiors and still lifes, alongside market and circus scenes, seashores, parks and harbour views. He practised several documented techniques and worked on various supports: painting, drawing, lithography (Steindruck), mural painting and watercolour.
In 1969, he is mentioned as «Lenzburger Malgast», a guest-artist status associated with Lenzburg. In 1982, an exhibition of his work was held at Galerie Rathausgasse in Lenzburg. The same gallery hosted a posthumous commemorative exhibition in 1986.
The last journey recorded in the documentation dates from 1985 and took him to Venice.
A self-portrait («Selbstbildnis») dated 1976 is mentioned and reproduced in the sources consulted. The themes and media already cited recur in the documentary entries, attesting to a practice that combines classical motifs (landscape, still life, interior) with a varied use of graphic and painterly techniques.
