Urs Amann
Urs Amann is presented as a Swiss Surrealist painter, known in particular for his visual collaborations with the musician Klaus Schulze.
His first oil paintings date from 1971 and were made in Berlin. In 1972, he attended the Form+Farbe art school in Zurich, a course of training listed in the available biographical notices.
He is described as an independent artist from 1974 onwards and, according to the source consulted, as a member of the Winterthur artists’ group from 1980.
He sometimes likes to characterise his own practice as «meta-realist painting», an expression he uses to situate his approach.
Amann’s public renown is due in large part to his creation of record sleeves for Klaus Schulze, with credits cited for Irrlicht (1972), Cyborg (1973), Blackdance (1974), Picture Music (1975), and Timewind (1975). The Discology entry explicitly attributes the cover of Timewind to Urs Amann.
The notice also refers to an associated publication (Jürg Amann, Urs Amann: Übermalungen. Überspitzungen) and to a SIKART entry, which constitute documentary references for further research into the subject.
