Ulla Engeberg Killias
Ulla Engeberg Killias (19 December 1945 – 7 June 1995) was a painter of Swedish origin who lived in Switzerland.
After completing her Matura in Stockholm, she trained in drawing and painting. From 1965 to 1975, she studied art history and German studies at the University of Zurich. In 1990, she obtained the diploma of Malleiterin from the Institut für Humanistische Kunsttherapie in Zurich.
In her personal life, she married Heinrich Sattler, adopted two children with him, and worked as the supervising educator at the therapeutic colony Schloss Hahnberg (St. Gallen). Following their separation, she married Heinz Killias in 1977; in the same year, she had the Miltsche Ritterhaus (Elsenerstrasse, Bilten) restored, a house in which she lived and whose restoration was entrusted to her in her capacity as an independent painter. She was a member of the group Skandinavische Künstler in der Schweiz and was invited in 1986 to the touring exhibition «4 Schweizer Künstler» in Denmark.
Artistically, in 1988 she created the stage set for E. T. A.
Hoffmann’s opera Undine in Mitlödi. Her last known solo exhibition was held in Seon in 1994. Diagnosed with leukaemia in 1985, she also took part in therapeutic initiatives: in 1992, together with the Krebsliga Glarus, she launched a maltherapie programme for cancer patients.
A retrospective entitled Ulla Engeberg-Killias, Malerin, Retrospektive 1975-1995 is mentioned in 1995.
