Simona Deflorin

Born in 1965.

Simona Deflorin is described in the notices found as a «Schweizer Malerin». Based in Basel, she has worked as an independent artist in a studio since 1991.

Her training includes studies at the Schule für Gestaltung Basel (1986–1988), in the Fachklasse «Freies Bildnerisches Gestalten» directed by Franz Fedier.

Her career includes studio residencies: support in 1997 for a stay at the Cité Internationale des Arts (the canton of Baselland’s «Carl Spitteler» programme), and a residency at Kloster Dornach in 2019, within the framework of the «Aussteigen‑auf‑Zeit» call. Documented distinctions include the Fontana‑Gränacher Stiftung prize in 2012.

Her practice has been shown in Germany, notably in the solo exhibition «TraumGesichte» at the Museum im Kleihues‑Bau (Kornwestheim) in 2013, a mention that also attests to a presence connected with that institution. Other presentations include solo exhibitions or projects in Europe and Japan: Kibousha Gallery (Gifu, 2012), Gallery Saoh & Tomos (Tokyo, 2010), ANOMIS (Galerie per‑seh, Hanover, 2011), «Fadistas» at the Museo Civico di Fondi (2007), and the project «meine, deine und aller Meere Fische» at Vadian Bank (St. Gallen, 2013).

In 2013, works by Simona Deflorin were incorporated into the collection associated with Kunstkredit Basel‑Landschaft, according to the reference to an acquisition by the cantonal fund. More recently, her painting was presented in the group exhibition «Crescendo» at the Birsfelder Museum (18 March – 24 April 2022), where she shared the hang with Ursula Glatz and Sandra Poncioni.

The artist has also published editions of her work, including Sturzglasgeschichten – Rendezvous mit der Ahnengalerie (2014) and Watercolors 2015–2018, …how Kali found the cat… (Basel, 2019), and her entries appear in the documentation of recent exhibitions classified under the heading «Malerei».
