René Blöchlinger

For some fifty years, René Blöchlinger has painted landscapes that he associates with a “state of mind”: nostalgia for a world that has often disappeared or is invisible. In his practice, sky and water bring the invisible to the surface through the visible. Water evokes life, the sky the divine; the moon’s reflection suggests the soul’s journey, while the boat signifies a change of life.

He works in oil, gouache, watercolour and acrylic, as well as in printmaking, and also practises copying.

Born in Geneva in 1942, he studied theology in Fribourg from 1963 to 1968, then applied arts in Zurich from 1975 to 1978 and humanities at the University of Lausanne from 1979 to 1983. He has lived in La Tour-de-Peilz since 1978. His travels have taken him to the Nordic countries, Ireland, Brittany, Scotland, Norway, Iceland and Lapland.

Blöchlinger is a member of the Image’In association in Châtel-Saint-Denis and of ARVA, with which he exhibits regularly. His biography mentions solo exhibitions at numerous galleries; he also regularly presents his paintings in the Vaud Riviera region and French-speaking Switzerland. Among the works described is a small-format etching, measuring 14.5 × 13.5 cm, on a sheet measuring 22.5 × 19.5 cm.
