Pipilotti Rist
Born in 1962.
Pipilotti Rist is documented through a practice that projects video beyond the frame of the monitor in order to occupy the architecture of the exhibition, an approach evidenced in particular by the work Sip My Ocean (1996).
Sip My Ocean (1996) is cited as the intervention that marked this first expansion — video here becomes a spatial element through its projection onto and within the exhibition space.
In parallel, Ever Is Over All (1997) is presented as a two-channel video with a documented duration of 8 minutes and 25 seconds, which precisely situates its form and temporal format.
The installation Pixelwald (Pixel Forest), dated 2016, deploys suspended LED lighting devices and a media player to present a documented sequence of around twenty minutes — the duration indicated in the sources is 35 minutes.
Devices combining projection and sculptural object appear in Massachusetts Chandelier (2010), presented as a work bringing together two projections, a chandelier, and sound elements, with the use — documented by the sources — of effects produced from previously worn and cleaned underwear.
In terms of museum commissions, Pour Your Body Out (2008) was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and conceived to occupy the museum’s atrium with moving images twenty-five feet high and sculptural seating, a description that provides an indication of the installation’s scale and scenography.
