Peter Regli

Born in 1959.

Peter Regli has developed since the 1990s a practice centred on anonymous public interventions described as «Reality Hackings».

These interventions take highly varied forms—staged objects, landscape modifications, sculptures installed in public space—as several examples documented here demonstrate.

Among them, RH No. 30-24 «Faked Meteorites» (1996) appears as an operation staging objects presented as meteorites. In 2002, RH No.

200 resulted in the artificial creation of a donut-shaped island in the Reuss delta, made from construction materials. More recently, RH No. 297 (2017) is documented as the installation of a giant granite block placed on a concrete pillar in the Swiss Alps.

These works have also been presented in recent solo exhibitions cited in the dossier: One Sun – One Moon (Dominique Lévy, New York, 2015), RH No. 315: Sleeping Stone (Karma, Amagansett, New York, 2014), and RH No. 313: Ages of Smoke (Istituto Svizzero, Milan, 2014).

The notice points to a recurring tension surrounding the stones presented: on the one hand, an appearance suggestive of mass production («made in China» stones); on the other, the assertion of the singularity of each piece.

According to the Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap), Peter Regli lives and works in New York.
