Pascal Bourquin
Born in 1970.
Pascal Bourquin lives and works in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Having grown up in Saignelégier, he has established a lasting presence in the artistic landscape of the Neuchâtel Jura. A graduate of the École d'art appliqué (EAA) in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1993, he has worked in that city ever since completing his degree.
After completing his training, he divided his activities for many years between graphic design and painting, and was among the local prizewinners: in 1993, he received the Prize of the 61st Biennale of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de La Chaux-de-Fonds.
His painting practice encompasses both small and large formats, with the recurring square format as a formal constant. The techniques he employs include oil, oil pastel, coloured pencil and charcoal on paper. An institutional example of his work is the acquisition by the Musée des Beaux-Arts de La Chaux-de-Fonds of a diptych presented at the 68th Biennale in 2007.
In terms of exhibitions, he took part, among others, in the 72nd Biennale of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de La Chaux-de-Fonds in 2016. He has also been represented in regional events such as the exhibition «Nature & Industrie» at CCL Saint-Imier (3 February – 19 March 2017). His participation in the Art Incognito event (Galerie du Soleil, Saignelégier) is documented in 2017 and 2019, and he received the Public Prize at the 2017 edition.
His recent activity is attested by exhibitions listed on his website in 2024, notably at CCL Saint-Imier (May 2024) and at Atelier Grand Cargo (April–May 2024).
In publishing, his contribution or presence is mentioned in the publication From NE with Love (2018, Quartier Général + Éditions du Griffon, La Chaux-de-Fonds).
