Helen Grämiger

Born in 1919.

Helen Grämiger is described in the source consulted as a “Swiss painter”. The notice further states that she was “heimatberechtigt ebenda”.

She grew up in Bazenheid as the fifth of seven children. At the age of twelve, she attended the school of the Capuchin convent of St. Klara in Stans; she subsequently obtained her Matura in 1939 at the Gymnasium Kollegium Heilig Kreuz in Fribourg (Üechtland). The source specifies that the outbreak of the Second World War prevented her planned university studies.

She attended the Sozial-caritative Frauenschule in Lucerne and completed an internship at the Kinderheim Ennetthur in Unterwasser (SG). Professionally, she worked in prisoner assistance and in the official guardianship service in St. Gallen. Alongside these activities, she joined the family button and embroidery firm Gebrüder Grämiger and, following an acquisition by the family, worked for Gremolith AG for “gut vier Jahrzehnte”, according to the source’s wording.

Alongside her professional activity, she worked as a painter, principally in acrylic. The source notes that she exhibited on several occasions at the Salon des indépendants of the Société des Artistes Indépendants in Paris; this information is given as “mehrfach”, without specific dates. A local presentation at SBG Wil is documented by a notice in the Thurgauer Zeitung of 5 July 1988.

In 1991, she published a work under her own name in Wil, in Eigenverlag.

An obituary or farewell article by Christian Jud, published in the Wiler Zeitung on 26 January 2010, is cited as a reference for several biographical details. The notice also refers to a planned or existing entry in the Sikart database.
