Alois Lichtsteiner
Born in 1950.
Alois Lichtsteiner is an artist whose documented practice combines painting and the creation of objects; in the documentation, he is particularly associated with the cycle entitled «Berg», begun in 1998.
His training led him to attend the Kunstgewerbeschule Zürich until 1978. In 1974, he spent a year in North Africa and Central Africa, as mentioned in the biographical sources. Around the turn of the 1980s, the sources place him among the members of the artists’ group SILO, with documentary references relating to the period 1980–1983 and a catalogue dated 1981.
Since 1990, according to the available information, he has lived and worked alternately in Murten (Morat) and Paris. Institutionally and pedagogically, he is documented as a guest lecturer at the Ecole Cantonale des Beaux-Arts (Sion/Sierre) between 1994 and 1998, and subsequently as president of the Bachelor/Master jury at HEA Sierre until 2004.
Lichtsteiner’s production combines painted forms and objects; in critical and museum documentation, the cycle «Berg», begun in 1998, is repeatedly cited as a significant milestone in his oeuvre.
The museum presentations recorded include exhibitions at Kunstmuseum Luzern in 2001 and Kunstmuseum Bern in 2003. His gallery exhibition activity is documented, notably by several presentations at Galerie Kornfeld (entries recorded in 2008, 2014, 2022 and 2026). More recently, he appears in the exhibition «Es ist nicht, was es ist», presented at Museum Franz Gertsch in Burgdorf for the period 2025/26.
The biographical information and exhibition chronology provided here make it possible to situate the identifiable axes of his career (training, travel, residences, teaching and museum/gallery presentations) without claiming documentary exhaustiveness.
