Alfred Dewiary

Born in 1938.

Died in 2003.

Alfred Dewiary, also presented in the compound form Alfred Widmer‑Dewiary on the official website, is described in the documentation as an artist whose name carries a poetic resonance (f1, f17).

His work was the subject, in 2011, of a monograph entitled VISIONS, published by the artists’ publishing house art&fiction and accompanied by an exhibition at the gallery of the Musée de Payerne, held from 27 March to 8 May 2011 (f2, f4).

The monograph and the documentation associated with the exhibition were indicated as being available at the Musée de Payerne and via the websites artfiction.ch and dewiary.ch, leaving an editorial and institutional record of this presentation (f15, f2).

The musical and symbolic reference to Wagner is explicitly mentioned on the website as a “basso continuo” of the painter’s inspiration, a formulation that illuminates part of his verbal and pictorial poetics (f14).

The section entitled “The Animal Painter” appearing on the website suggests that animal representation forms part of the identifiable thematic orientations of his work (f16).

Several collaborations and illustrations attest to a dialogue with text: 19 pen illustrations for LE JARDINIER DES GALAXIES (1990), 29 illustrations for UN PEINTRE, UN POÈTE (1994), and a contribution to DEMAIN EST UNE ÉTOILE (1994), presented as a conversation between a painter and a poet (f5, f6, f7).
