Alexandre-Félix Alméras

Born in 1811.

Died in 1868.

Alexandre-Félix Alméras is known in the documents provided as a painter and as a figure engaged in Geneva’s public life.

Born into a family already connected with the arts — the son of Abraham-Maurice Alméras, a drawing instructor, and Anne Chappuis — he pursued studies in letters and sciences at the Académie de Genève from 1826 to 1831.

From the 1850s onwards, he combined a number of administrative responsibilities: he served as secretary of Geneva’s Department of Public Works from 1850 to 1856, then as director of the warehouses from 1857 to 1861.

At the same time, he appeared in local and national political life — as a member of the Association du Trois Mars in 1841, a Radical deputy to the Grand Council of Geneva from 1844 to 1860, and a member of the cantonal Constituent Assembly in 1846; he represented Geneva in the federal assemblies as a deputy to the Tagsatzung in 1848, sat on the National Council from 1848 to 1854, and on the Council of States from 1860 to 1862.

In family matters, the files mention his marriage to Anne-Lucile Counis, daughter of Adam Counis, a guillocheur.

The notice also records his Protestant denomination.

For the political and biographical context, the file cites in particular F. Ruchon, Histoire politique de la République de Genève (1953).

This entry presents the available biographical and career details without undertaking an analysis of the works, as these are not described in the documents provided.
