Bô Yin Râ, born Joseph Anton Schneiderfranken in Bavaria, pursues a career as both a painter and a philosophical-religious writer. Trained under Hans Thoma in Frankfurt and Max Klinger in Leipzig, he paints landscapes of Greece, Sweden and the Spessart nature reserve in Bavaria, among other subjects. His stay in Greece in 1912–1913 is one of the documented episodes in his development as a painter.
From 1923, he settles in Switzerland, first in Horgen, in the canton of Zurich, and then in Massagno, in Ticino, in 1925. He becomes a Swiss citizen in 1938. In 1920, he founds the Jakob Böhme association.
His work as an author includes a cycle of spiritual teachings comprising 32 books, translated into several languages and reissued many times. The titles and dates mentioned in this corpus offer an overview of this body of work, without summarising it in its entirety. The works cited include Das Buch vom Glück (1920) and Das Buch vom Jenseits (1921), followed by Das Mysterium von Golgatha (1922) and Kultmagie und Mythos (1924). Mantra-Praxis is dated 1928.
