Morin-Jean (1877–1940), the pseudonym of Jean Alexis Joseph Morin, was a French painter and printmaker. Winter Evening in Montmartre, around 1910, combines aquatint and soft-ground etching on laid paper. The painting Port Joinville, View of the Lighthouse (1928), at the Centre Pompidou, is also titled Window on the Île d’Yeu: maritime landscape meets interior space.
In The Flooded Loire: Winter Landscape, houses, boats and rows of partly submerged elms structure the view. Reims purchased this intaglio print from the artist in 1935; its impression is numbered four of nine. Saint-Germain-en-Laye (1931), at the Centre Pompidou, suggests a more immediate practice: the street drawn in ink and graphite occupies a detached sketchbook leaf dated 25 May. Painting, printmaking and drawing thus offer complementary approaches to place.
