Bénédicte Peyrat, born in Paris in 1967, develops a figurative practice in which landscapes, animals and people enter into unexpected relationships. Her exhibition Das gewöhnliche Leben in Jena in 2016–2017 brought together paintings and faience. Motifs move from surface into volume; the ceramics' blue decoration on white recalls the Delft tradition.
This exchange between supports continues in Ecco, faccio una cosa nuova, presented at RIBOT in 2023: watercolours painted on the walls also served as backgrounds for acrylic canvases. The arrangement combines immediate gesture with prolonged elaboration. Peyrat also participated in Pas de deux, opened at Kolumba in 2017, where contemporary works encountered those of other periods. Such juxtapositions place her practice in dialogue with the memory of images and the circumstances of their presentation.
This profile brings together identity references for Bénédicte Peyrat and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
