Graziella Marchi studied drawing with Manlio Rho in Como before developing her painting practice in Milan from the 1960s. Early presentations in Paris and Ghent preceded exhibitions at the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris and Milan’s Galleria del Naviglio. Her imagery transforms everyday objects within a dreamlike register, sometimes using handmade paper. Marine subjects contrast the substantial presence of ocean liners with the lightness of sailing boats, while the painted surfaces of mountain landscapes evoke the roughness of rock. These two groups of subjects came together in her Milan exhibition of 1995. Sea and mountains thus provide complementary settings in which observation, imagination and pictorial texture interact.
This profile brings together identity references for Graziella Marchi and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
